More than 61,000 cubic meters of snow were discharged to prevent avalanches in mountains of Almaty

Almaty. March 11. KazTAG – Preventive avalanche release was carried out in the Bostandyk and Medeu districts to reduce the risk of their spontaneous descent. A total of 61.5 thousand cubic meters of snow came off, reports the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
"In the Bostandyk and Medeu districts, in order to ensure the safety of sections of the Almaty-Kosmostantsiya and Shymbulak-Mynzhylky highways due to the high altitude and unstable state of the snow cover on avalanche catchments, in the basins of the Bolshaya Almatinka and Malaya Almatinka rivers, specialists from the Kazselezashchita State Institution of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan carried out preventive avalanche descent. A total of 61.5 thousand cubic meters of snow were released, thereby significantly reducing the risk of spontaneous avalanches," reads the report.
The avalanches temporarily blocked the roads, but they were cleared by emergency services.
Since the beginning of the year, 12 preventive avalanche descents have been carried out in the mountains of Almaty, as a result of which more than 72 thousand cubic meters of snow were released.
