Ministry of Transport: Kazakhstan's import and export traffic grows slower than transit

Astana. December 23. KazTAG – Kazakhstan's import and export traffic grew slower than transit traffic in 2023, said Marat Karabayev,Kazakhstan's Minister of Transport.
"In 2023, transit increased by 40%, and import/export by 20%," Karabayev said, speaking at the Majilis's right hour.
According to him, the growth rate of traffic with China is high.
"If last year import/export increased by 2.5 times, and transit - two times and amounted to 1.8 and 2.2 million tons, respectively, then in the first nine months of 2024 these figures have grown again by 59% and 67% - to 1.9 million and 2.5 million tons," said Karabayev.
Neighboring countries are also working to develop the relevant infrastructure to increase their transit potential. Therefore, according to the data, by developing our infrastructure, we are promoting three more routes through Kazakhstan: the waterway through Batumi-Varna-Constanta, the multimodal road to Turkey via Baku and Georgia, and the Turkmenistan-Iran-land route through Turkey to Europe.
