“WHO has announced a new dangerous infection that can be transmitted from bats to humans. The natural foci of the Marburg virus are the Southern, Western and Central African regions. It is widespread in Gabon, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia, Guinea, Kenya, Zimbabwe, and Rwanda,” said Sarkhat Beisenova, Chairperson of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Control Committee of the Ministry of Health.
Marburg is characterized by a severe course, high mortality, hemorrhagic syndrome, damage to the liver, gastrointestinal tract, and central nervous system.
“Symptoms include a sudden increase in body temperature, severe headache, and muscle pain. On the third day, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and then vomiting are possible. On the 5th to 7th day, many people develop a pronounced hemorrhagic symptom. Bleeding occurs. Death occurs in 8-9 days. It will be preceded by severe blood loss and fainting. As experts noted, the virus is dangerous because at the moment there is no vaccine or treatment against it, only symptomatic treatment measures are carried out,” the speaker said.
