Yubileyny airfield is suitable for creating fuel hub in Kazakhstan

Astana. December 20. KazTAG –  The Yubileiny airfield at Baikonur could become the basis for the creation of a large transport an  refueling hub in Kazakhstan, said Galiaskar Sarybayev , Senate deputy.
"The airfield (Yubileyny, at Baikonur - KazTAG), built in 1980 as part of the Buran program, has (...) a runway 4.5 thousand meters long and 84 meters wide and is capable of receiving heavy cargo aircraft weighing up to 392 tons. However, after the collapse of the USSR, the airfield fell into disrepair, and since 2020, its status and owner remain uncertain," Sarybayev said, making a request at a Senate meeting.
The airfield could become the basis for the creation of a large transport and fuel refueling hub, which will not only increase transit volumes, but also strengthen the region's economy by developing small aviation.
