Baikonur celebrates 67th anniversary of launch of first artificial Earth satellite

Baikonur. October 4. KazTAG – Baikonur is celebrating the 67th anniversary of the launch of the first artificial Earth satellite, which marked the beginning of the space era.
October 4, 1957 marked the beginning of the space era for mankind, and the Baikonur Cosmodrome became the first cosmodrome in the world to launch the first spacecraft into near-earth orbit.
A number of festive and entertainment events are planned in the city and at the cosmodrome today.
This morning at the Gagarin launch site, the site of the first cosmodrome from which Sputnik-1 was launched, a ceremonial rally was held with the participation of workers of the space industry enterprises and veterans of the cosmodrome.
Thematic events and festive concerts will be held for the workers of the enterprises and city residents.
