Two bloggers detained in extortion case in Almaty

Almaty. January 23. KazTAG – Two bloggers have been detained in an extortion case in Almaty, reports the press service of the city police department.
“Officers of the Almaty Police Department have detained an entrepreneur and two bloggers at the request of the victim. The suspects, using blackmail and threats to publish incriminating materials on social networks, extorted T8 million. In addition, they tried to persuade the victim to abandon claims for T20 million, which the entrepreneur was obliged to pay by a court decision. The perpetrators were detained while receiving 10 million. In accordance with Article 128 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, they were placed in a temporary detention facility. A criminal case has been opened on the fact of extortion,” said the report.
As reported by a KazTAG source in the security forces, the detained bloggers are Damir Kusheyev and Ruslan Karimov.
Kusheyev was previously arrested for 15 days by the court in a case of disturbing public order in the building of the Almaty prosecutor's office, when he was filming the alleged violations.
