Resident of Zhezkazgan convicted of participating in armed conflict as part of Wagner PMC

Zhezkazgan. January 15. KazTAG - A resident of Zhezkazgan was found guilty of participating in military operations abroad as part of the Wagner PMC and sentenced to four years and six months in prison, reported the press service of the Ulytau courts.
"By court verdict the man was found guilty under Article 172 (Participation in foreign armed conflicts) of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan and sentenced to imprisonment for a term of four years and six months, to be served in medium-security penal institutions," the report said.
In autumne of 2022, the defendant, while in Zhezkazgan, received information about an armed conflict abroad via the Internet and began planning a trip. The main reason for participation was ideological convictions: the defendant's late father was a native of Kharkov, and, in the opinion of the defendant, the authorities of a foreign state are infringing on the rights of residents of Russian nationality.
In November 2022, he left Zhezkazgan for Petropavlovsk, from where he crossed the border into Kazakhstan through the Kurgan checkpoint. Then the defendant arrived at the Wagner PMC training camp in the Krasnodar Territory, signed a contract under which he was guaranteed payment of 240 thousand Russian rubles per month. The contract also provided for compensation of 5 million rubles in the event of his death, the money was to be given to his friend.
