Kazakhstani sentenced in case of large-scale drug smuggling from Thailand

Almaty. January 16. KazTAG – A Kazakh citizen has been sentenced in a case of large-scale drug smuggling from Thailand, reports the financial monitoring agency.
“The court sentenced the perpetrator to 16 years in prison. The seized narcotic substances have been destroyed,” reads the report.
A parcel containing cannabis extract (hashish oil) with a total weight of almost 800 grams was received by the Kazpost branch of Ili district of Almaty region.
During the operational activities it was revealed that the suspect, using the Telegram messenger, ordered drugs from Thailand.
“After opening the parcel it was confirmed the presence of narcotic substances hidden in eight jars with a characteristic smelll, disguised as cosmetics," the report said.
Since the beginning of this year, the AFM has registered 135 criminal cases on the facts of smuggling and illegal drug trafficking.
It is indicated that 77.1 kg of narcotic drugs, 3.2 kg of psychotropic substances, 206 thousand pieces of anabolic steroids (a toxic substance) and about 1.7 thousand pieces of Tropicamide eye drops were seized.
