“The number of people who arrived in Kazakhstan for permanent residence was 29,282 people, the number of people who left the country was 12,732 people in 2024. The migration balance was 16,550 people. Thus, for the second year in a row, there has been a positive balance in external migration. Compared to 2023, the number of people arriving in Kazakhstan has increased by 15.3%, while the number of people leaving Kazakhstan has decreased by 20.9%," reads the report.
The main migration flow comes from the CIS countries: 81.6% of those arriving are from these countries, and 74.8% of those leaving went there. Among other countries, most people arrive from China, Mongolia and Turkey, and leave for Germany, Poland and the USA.
Most often, foreigners choose Almaty (6,260 people), Almaty (4,788) and Mangistau (3,680) regions to live in Kazakhstan. Most people leave from North Kazakhstan (2,133 people), Karaganda (1,588) and East Kazakhstan (1,195) regions.
Internal migration also increased by 47.6% compared to 2023. A positive balance was recorded in Astana (73,238 people), Almaty (36,061), Shymkent (9,361) and Almaty region (2,639).
