"The forces and means of the DES of several fire departments, sent to the Almalinsky district, Kashgarskaya street in response to a report of a fire, are extinguishing a high rank fire from an apartment on the seventh floor of an eight-story residential building," the report said.
The apartment and the roof are on fire.
25 firefighters and six units of DES equipment are working at the scene.
"Additional forces and means are on their way," the department added.
Firefighters are working in compliance with safety regulations, there is a threat of collapse of structures. A fire ladder has been deployed on the northern side of the building.
"There is a traffic jam on Abay-Baytursynov, the movement of vehicles is being impeded, the police department is organizing a cordon," the emergency services reported.
