Rosselkhoznadzor's actions threaten to spoil 25.2 million tons of Kazakhstani grain - deputy

Astana. October 17. KazTAG - The actions of Rosselkhoznadzor  (Russian agricultural surveillance service) violate the terms of the agreement on the Eurasian Economic Union and threaten to spoil 25.2 million tons of Kazakhstani grain, said Aidarbek Khodzhanazarov , Majilis deputy.
"From September 23, 2024, the Russian Federation introduced unilateral restrictions on the transit of Kazakhstani grain and a number of agricultural products through its territory. Such measures, blocking the issuance of phytosanitary certificates for grain, cereals, sunflower seeds, tomatoes, peppers and other types of products, are a violation of international agreements. (…) Such actions by Rosselkhoznadzor threaten to spoil 25.2 million tons of grain, which were laudably reported. In addition, we are losing quality and time,” said Khodjanazarov, voicing a deputy’s request, at a meeting of the Majilis.
Given such economic damage, the deputies ask the government of Kazakhstan to immediately begin official negotiations with the Russian Federation and lift unjustified phytosanitary restrictions on the transit of Kazakh products.
“If Rosselkhoznadzor refuses to fulfill this requirement, the issue should be considered by the judicial board of the Eurasian Economic Union. (…) If necessary, before resolving the above issues, it is necessary to introduce measures such as restricting access of goods from a neighboring country to the Kazakhstan market,” Khodjanazarov said.
