Former akim of Kentau was sent to prison again

Konayev. November 10. KazTAG – Former akim of Kentau Dauren Makhazhanov has again been sent to prison again.
“As of today, we inform you that he was taken to the “Institution No. 64 -  the Correctional Institution of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan to further serve his sentence,” reports the press service of the Almaty Regional Court.
The appellate instance of the Almaty Regional Court overturned the decision of the court of the city of Konayev to replace the unserved part of the sentence with a more lenient punishment.
On February 25, 2022, KazTAG reported that Makhazhanov was detained in Almaty on suspicion of bribery and placed in a temporary detention facility. On the same day, the anti-corruption agency confirmed the detention, clarifying that on February 23, Makhazhanov, through his proxies, received a bribe in the amount of $98.5 thousand from the director of a partnership engaged in the repair of highways in Kentau as part of a public-private partnership.
On July 13, 2022, former akim of Kentau Dauren Makhazhanov was sentenced to 10 years in prison for bribery.
