Foreign droppers who defrauded elderly woman to T13 million removed from flight in Astana

Astana. February 14. KazTAG – Foreign droppers who defrauded an elderly woman to T13 million were removed from a flight in Astana, reports the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“A pre-trial investigation is currently underway on this fact. The perpetrators have been placed in a temporary detention facility,” reads the report.
During operational activities, police officers uncovered a fraud scheme as a result of which an 84-year-old woman lost T13 million.
“It was established that the perpetrators contacted the victim, posing as law enforcement officers. They gave her false information about a traffic accident involving her sister, who was allegedly responsible for the accident. Under the pretext of the need for urgent treatment of the victim, the fraudsters convinced the woman to give them a large sum of cash," said the report.
After handing over the money, the elderly woman realized that she had become a victim of fraud and contacted the police. During the operational search activities, the police established the identities of the suspects and their location. It is indicated that it turned out that two citizens of a neighboring state were trying to leave the country by plane.
