Baikonur is celebrating the City Day

Baikonyr. June 2. KazTAG - Baikonur is celebrating a City Day and 68 years of the world's first cosmodrome, KazTAG reports.

The festive events began on Friday morning in Shubnikov Park, where flowers were laid at the monument in honor of the 65th anniversary of the city and the Baikonur cosmodrome.

Festive events will continue in the evening with the ceremony of conferring the title of "Honorary Citizen of Baikonur" and will be awarded to six veterans of the city and the cosmodrome, who were awarded the high rank for merits in service and production.

The celebration of the City Day will continue in the evening on the Arbat pedestrian zone, where concert programs of the brass band and children's music schools will be presented.

The festive program will end on the central city square, where the musicians of the Kyzylorda Regional Philharmonic will give a concert.

Recall that the date of the City Day was approved in 1996. Historically, June 2 in Baikonur was celebrated as the day of the formation of the military unit of missilemen, although officially the first stone in the foundation of the city was laid on May 5, 1955.
