“Thefts of more than T1 billion were discovered at Air Astana. This figure was established as a result of an audit over the past three years. The research was conducted by specialists from Ernst & Young LLP. According to their data, certain individuals made changes to the information system for booking airline tickets, thus embezzling entrusted property. Having received the audit report, Air Astana management contacted law enforcement agencies – the statement was written by the airline’s representative Erbolat Sugirbayev. A pre-trial investigation has been registered under Part 4 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code – theft on an especially large scale,” Kozachkov wrote on his Telegram channel.
According to him, the damage makes T1,054,740,000.
"The punishment for this serious crime is from 7 to 12 years of imprisonment. Usually, in such cases, a criminal case is investigated against officials of the enterprise. Therefore, there is a possibility that one of the top managers of the national air carrier will end up in the dock," Kozachkov added.
