“The coverage of residential premises with insurance against natural disasters is on average 3.2% in Kazakhstan and 7.7% in Almaty,” the report said.
According to UN estimates, 75% of the territory of Kazakhstan is susceptible to various natural disasters.
The situation with the floods showed that most of the buildings in the risk zone were not insured, which led to serious financial losses for citizens and businesses. Insurance companies received only 165 claims, and the amount of claims from victims amounted to T745 million, while the state allocated about T137 billion from the budget to eliminate the consequences of the floods.
