"This week the city commission has discussed and approved the name of Baikonur. The republican onomastics commission sent a protocol of its session to the akimat without any changes in the resolution of the city commission," said Zhanat Surpeisov, secretary of Maslikhat of Astana.
"The population of Astana has grown up by 35% in 5 years from 645 000 to 1 mln 10 thousand people. Last year over 8000 hectares of land were connected to the city, the lake of Maibalyk, the Pantheon. We need to create the fourth district for construction of new schools, kindergartens, polyclinic transport system and engineering infrastructure to resolve the problem of density of population," said Baktybay Taitaliyev, head of agriculture department and city planning.
He said the eastern part of the fourth district borders with Almaly district, western and southern part of Saryarka district, it lies along the Ishim river bordering with the Yesil district. The total area of the city makes 79 733 hectares, including the area of the new district- 18 129 hectares. 211 000 people will live in the new district.
