“The recent transition to a single time zone did not lead to significant changes in electricity consumption schedules. Electricity consumption in the country is directly related to the daily rhythm of life of the population. Peak loads occur in the morning and evening hours, when consumption increases due to the activation of life processes,” said the press service of the ministry.
The time change did not cause any disruptions in the operation of the power system or restrictions for consumers.
According to data, electricity consumption increased by 4% in January-September 2023 and 2024. The Ministry of Energy believes that the growth is due to a natural increase in consumption by the population and the country's economy as a whole, and not changes in time zones.
KazTAG had reported that the volume of electricity purchases from Russia increased sharply after Kazakhstan switched to a single time zone.
