Kazakhstan should sue Ukraine after damage caused to CPC - expert

Astana. February 21. KazTAG - The government of Kazakhstan should sue Ukraine because of the damage caused by the strikes by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) facility, believes Olzhas Baidildinov, member of the public council of the Ministry of Energy.
“I think the government of Kazakhstan can sue Ukraine. Not that it can, but it should, because this is direct damage. Damage was caused to the infrastructure. It will be quite difficult to restore this over time. (…) Pumping can no longer be carried out at the previous volumes. There is an oil pumping station there. And you can, so to speak, bring as much oil there as you want, but if their volumes are reduced due to the accident, they will not be able to transfer any more. This is the main problem. And the Ukrainians knew where they were hitting. This is a targeted attack,” Baidildinov said on the sidelines of the Majilis.
As a result of the reduction in oil pumping through the CPC pipelines, according to the expert, the tenge may lose some rates against the dollar. In addition, Baidildinov emphasized that Kazakh side could have suffered during the attack on the CPC.
“It’s good that people did not die. For some reason, this issue is not voiced in our media, but we need to understand that many Kazakhs work at the CPC, many ethnic Kazakhs who are there in Russia. (…) This also requires condemnation, because, for example, Kazakhs could have died there, they should not have suffered under any circumstances. This is not a military facility, they are not on military service,” the expert said.
