“In terms of time, in general, based on international experience in the construction of large foreign projects, it takes about two to three years, sometimes more, to design the station, then, from the moment the first concrete is poured, it will take from 8 to 10 years of construction. That is, in general, the construction of the first unit of a nuclear power plant is carried out in about 10-12 years in the absence of certain significant risks. But we understand that technology does not stand still. There is experience in the construction and already replication of the construction of certain promising nuclear technologies. That is, we understand that even based on these average global deadlines, we will raise the issue with potential leaders about the possibility of accelerating these deadlines so that we have the opportunity within eight years now,” Satkaliyev said at a briefing.
The country is also considering the possibility of constructing at least three nuclear power plants for the full-fledged development of the nuclear industry.
“As you already know, Kazakhstan produces pumping equipment for nuclear power plants. We have a very large range of production facilities. That is, in order to fully utilize all the benefits of the country and the competitive advantages that we have, it is necessary to build at least three nuclear power plants,” said Almasadam Satkaliyev.
Control over the construction, according to him, will be carried out by both Kazakh authorities and international structures, including the IAEA.
