Capuchin monkey listed in Red Book was found in pet store in Karaganda region

Karaganda. February 3. KazTAG – A brown capuchin monkey, listed in the Red Book, was found in one of the pet stores in Temirtau, the keeping of which in private collections is prohibited, reports the official Internet resource of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“Employees of the environmental police of the Karaganda region police department received an alarming message about the presence of a very rare animal listed in the Red Book in a pet store in the city of Temirtau. Together with representatives of the organization “Zooshield Alliance”, during the inspection, a brown capuchin monkey was found – a species of primate on the verge of extinction, which is strictly prohibited from being in private collections”
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the owner of the pet store was unable to provide documents for the primate. According to the 35-year-old manager, the capuchin monkey was left with him for temporary care, but he did not receive any supporting documents for the animal.
A criminal case has been opened in connection with the illegal treatment of endangered species. The investigation is establishing how the rare primate ended up on the territory of Kazakhstan.
