“On January 8, the body of Karina Dorokhina was found in a mountainous area near the city of Tekeli,” reads the report.
At the moment, the criminal case about the disappearance of a minor has been reclassified under Article 99 (murder) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
14-year-old Dorokhina disappeared in early November 2023. Her aunt on her father’s side began sounding the alarm about her disappearance. She said that her niece constantly lived with her mother and stepfather, who, in addition to Karina, had three young children together.
“At the end of December 2023, a grandmother living in Russia asked to give her granddaughter gifts for the New Year. When we arrived at the Ushinsky school, where Karina studied, we did not find the girl there. Teachers reported that she did not attend this term. The head teacher and the district inspector, who came to the house where Karina lived, were told by her mother that she had transferred her daughter to another school, but the girl was not there either. Then the mother told the head teacher that she had sent her daughter to Russia to live with her grandmother, but Karina was not there either. We are very worried about our niece, maybe she is no longer alive,” said Karina Dorokhina’s aunt.
Only after this case was made public did the police begin searching for her.
Her mother was detained on suspicion of involvement in her daughter's disappearance. After the woman confessed to killing her daughter, they searched for the girl’s body near Tekeli, where, according to her, she and her husband buried it in the snow.
