Active opponents of NPPs in Kazakhstan called on their supporters to participate in a referendum

Almaty. September 23. KazTAG – Active opponents of the nuclear power plant (NPP) in Kazakhstan called on their supporters to participate in a referendum.
“From the point of view of electric power engineering, there are various ways to cover the future of electricity, including without nuclear power plants. The Ministry of Energy knows this, because the Ministry of Energy has a scenario for the development of Kazakhstan’s energy system without nuclear power plants. We know this scenario ourselves, we have calculated it. And what the minister says: “We’ll manage without NPPs somehow” is true, because the Ministry of Energy has such a scenario,” energy expert and former head of KEGOC Asset Nauryzbayev said at a press conference.
At the same time, he named a cheaper scenario for consumers.
“Energy produced by renewable energy sources is six times cheaper than energy produced at a nuclear power plant. To do this, just go to the website of the Kazakh single purchaser, where the results of the auctions are listed, and the price of the latest auctions has reached T9 per kilowatt/hour. While the Turkish Akkuyu station is the latest project of Rosatom, the most recent one, Turkey signed $12.35 per kilowatt/hour, well, about T60 - six times more expensive. Therefore, the development scenario with a nuclear power plant is more expensive. Therefore, our movement "NPP Kerek Emes" calls on Kazakhstani people to go to the referendum, vote against it," Nauryzbayev said.
