Woman's body found at avalanche site in Almaty mountains

Almaty. March 18. KazTAG – A woman's body was found at the site of an avalanche in the Almaty mountains, reports the press service of the city's emergency department.
"On March 17, in the Left Talgar area, at an altitude of 3,160 m, an avalanche of about 50 cubic meters went down. According to preliminary data, the snow mass was torn off by freeriders who ignored warnings about the avalanche danger. Three freeriders cut the slope, causing an avalanche. Rescuers found a woman's body . She was transported to the Kombi-2 station for evacuation,” the statement said.
The Department of Emergency Situations noted that on March 14, the Kazhydromet State Enterprise issued storm warning No. 4.
“The Almaty Department of Emergency Situations and the State Institution “Kazselezashchita” of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan sent an official notification to the Shymbulak ski resort about the high risk of avalanches. From March 15 to 17, it was recommended to restrict access to potentially dangerous areas. The risk was also reported via SMS messages and in the media. Despite this, on March 17, a signal was received at the 112 control panel about a second avalanche in the area of Komsomol Peak. Emergencies Ministry rescuers once again call on tourists and extreme sports enthusiasts to follow the warnings. Off-piste skiing during the avalanche-prone period is a deadly risk,” the Department of Emergency Situations added.
