Tokayev instructed to create international air hub in Kazakhstan

Astana. January 28. KazTAG – President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has ordered the urgent creation of an international air hub in Kazakhstan, reports Akorda.
“Another urgent task is to create an international air hub in our country. We need to take the most decisive measures to transform our major airports into international competitive hubs,” Tokayev said at an extended government meeting on Tuesday.
The head of state emphasized the importance of creating a holistic ecosystem that will include cargo and passenger terminals, logistics centers and modern services. He paid special attention to reducing the cost of jet fuel, noting that its high price, especially at the capital's airport, hinders the development of the aviation sector.
"The last point is extremely important, because jet fuel at our airports, in particular, at the capital's airport, is too expensive. The Antimonopoly Agency together with the government must complete this task in the first half of the year," said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
He also emphasized the huge potential of the global air cargo market, which is estimated at $140 billion, noting that Kazakhstani airlines are not yet actively involved in this segment.
