Smartphones with illegal IMEI codes to be blocked in Kazakhstan from March 24

Astana. March 4. KazTAG – New rules for checking IMEI codes of mobile devices will come into force in Kazakhstan from March 24. If a smartphone ends up on the “black list,” it will be blocked from working in the networks of Kazakhstani operators, reports  the official Internet source of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“New rules will come into force in Kazakhstan from March 24, 2025. Now smartphones will be checked by IMEI code, and if your phone ends up on the “black” list, it will stop working – without communication, Internet, and access to mobile functions,” reads the report.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 474 mobile phone thefts have been registered in Kazakhstan since the beginning of the year – 38.4% less than in the same period last year. The police believe that the decrease is due to preventive work and the rapid detection of stolen devices.
