Share of women in politics of independent Kazakhstan has never exceeded 15%

Astana. November 6. KazTAG –  Since Kazakhstan gained its independence, the share of women holding political positions has never exceeded 15%, said Karakat Abden , Majilis deputy.
“Since independence, the share of women holding political positions in Kazakhstan  has never exceeded 15%,” Abden said, speaking with a parliamentary inquiry at a meeting of the lower house of parliament on Wednesday.
In 2023, the share of women among civil servants was 55.7%, but in management – only 20.3%.
According to the IPU Parline rating, Kazakhstan is in the 124th place out of 183 countries in terms of women's representation in politics.  Meanwhile, in Uzbekistan, following the recent parliamentary elections, the share of women deputies in the legislative chamber of parliament was 38%.
In Kazakhstan, the share of women in district maslikhats is on average 21%. But, for example, in the Turkestan region - only 6.5%. In the quasi-public sector, men still predominate in key positions.
