More than 40 drug supply channels eliminated since beginning of 2024 in Kazakhstan

Astana. June 26. KazTAG – More than 40 drug supply channels have been eliminated since the beginning of 2024 in Kazakhstan, reports the National Security Committee (NSC).
“In 1987, the United Nations declared June 26 as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The National Security Committee, along with other government agencies, is actively involved in countering these threats. Since the beginning of 2024, the National Security Committee has carried out 96 operations to combat drug trafficking, including 23 with the competent authorities of foreign states. As a result, 24 international and seven regional drug supply channels, as well as the activities of 16 clandestine drug laboratories, have been eliminated,” the report said.
According to the National Security Committee, over 1.3 tons of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, 4.6 tons of raw poppy straw and 13.6 tons of chemical reagents used for the production of synthetic drugs were seized from illicit trafficking.
“The value of the seized drugs on the black market is estimated at almost T17 billion, and the volume not allowed into circulation is about T5 million in single doses. Based on these facts, the National Security Committee is conducting pre-trial investigations against 54 citizens of Kazakhstan and foreigners. Along with this, the Border Service of the National Security Committee stopped more than 200 attempts to smuggle drugs on international routes. Over 790 kg of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances were seized from illicit trafficking,” reads the report.
