Nurlan Nigmatulin resigned as speaker of the Majilis on February 1, 2022, after the January events - he headed the lower house of parliament from 2016, and this was his second chairmanship - before that, he was speaker of the Majilis in 2012-2014. In different years, he headed the presidential administration and was akim of the Karaganda region.
