Almost 5,000 cubic meters of snow melted in mountains of East Kazakhstan region

Ust-Kamenogorsk. March 18. KazTAG – Almost 5,000 cubic meters of snow melted in the mountains of East Kazakhstan region, reports the press service of the regional emergency department.
“In the Katon-Karagaysky district, the slopes were cleared of snow mass to prevent spontaneous avalanches and the ice on the Bukhtarma River was crushed in places prone to jams. There are two avalanche collection areas along the Sogornoye-Barlyk highway. They were cleared of accumulated snow by carrying out preventive explosions. During the work, 4,770 cubic meters of snow mass melted,” said the report.
According to long-term observations, during the ice drift on the Bukhtarma River in the area of the village of Sennoe, ice jams occurred with flooding of the coastal zone.
“To ensure the free flow of water along the riverbed and avoid jams, specialists crushed the ice over an area of about 10 thousand square meters,” said the Department of Emergency Situations.
