Access to clean drinking water in Kazakhstan's schools remains a problem - senator

Astana. December 8. KazTAG - Access to clean drinking water in schools in Kazakhstan remains a problem, said Akmaral Alnazarova, Senate deputy.
“Access to clean drinking water in educational institutions is still a problem. 68% of schoolchildren bring water from home, approximately 30% buy water at school. Providing access to drinking water within the school walls will reduce children’s consumption of sugary drinks,” Alnazarova said, voicing a deputy’s request at a Senate meeting.
According to her, in school meals children receive saturated fats, sugar and salt exceeding the norms by two or more times. The prevalence of anemia among Kazakh children is 58%, vitamin A deficiency is 23%. Cases of group-based foodborne illnesses are on the rise – about 425 school-age children have been affected since 2020.
