“The general plan of the city until 2040 establishes the intended purpose of the site – “for the operation of a hippodrome.” Just because one of the land owners announced plans to build something, this does not mean that it will happen. Everything will be within the framework of the law, in accordance with the master plan,” Dosayev said at a meeting with residents of the Zhetysu district of Almaty.
At a press conference “Protection of the Hippodrome as a historical architectural monument” at the National Press Club in Almaty, eco-activist Saltanat Tashimova said that the hippodrome could be moved outside the city, and a residential complex could be built in its place. It was noted that they refuse to renew contracts with horsemen and the reason may lie in possible plans to transfer the territory of the hippodrome for residential development.
