Uzbekistan may face social tension amid return of labour migrants from Russia and Kazakhstan
Tashkent. May 22. KazTAG - Uzbekistan may face surge of social tension amid return of the labour migrants from Russia and Kazakhstan, said Bakhtiyer Ergashev, director of the center of research initiatives Ma'no.
"Due to the economic situation in Russia and Kazakhstan which are the main recipients of the work force from Uzbekistan, we expect at least 1 mln labour migrants to return to Uzbekistan who worked in summer in these states. At present whether they are returning or are not going to leave Uzbekistan, thus, the task is to prevent the social tension, and to create the work places," he said at the international video conference "Coordination of economic strategies in the EAEU states amid pandemic crisis ”, organized by the Siberia-Eurasia expert club.
He said he encourages the initiatives of Uzbek Government.
"The Government resolved to allocate more than 300 000 hectares of lands for development of both small plots of both garden and other fruit and vegetable crops. This should be a good help for people in rural areas to work and earn. The second approach is a very active work to increase the volume of public works. This is primarily infrastructure, in this we are similar to Kazakhstan, which also decided that public works will ensure employment of the population," he said.
