Astana. December 18. KazTAG - A subsidiary of Rosatom sold 49.98% of its shares in JSC JV Zarechnoye to SNURDC Astana Mining Company Limited (China). It also intends to transfer 30% of the shares in JV Khorasan-U LLP and 30% of the shares in Kyzylkum LLP to China Uranium Development Company Limited, the ultimate beneficiary of which is CGN (China), according to the press-release.
The Kazakh operator will retain its participation under the same conditions: 49.98% in Zarechny and 50% in JV Khorasan-U LLP, and 50% (indirect) in Kyzylkum LLP. Kazatomprom is the world's largest producer of natural uranium, producing about 20% of the world's total primary production in 2023. The company, together with its subsidiaries and affiliates, dependent and joint ventures, is developing 26 deposits. The total reserves of Zarechny, located in the Turkestan region, are estimated at 3.5 thousand tons. All uranium mined by JV Khorasan-U LLP is processed at the production facilities of Kyzylkum LLP in the same territory. At the same time, as reported, the company does not have any subsoil use rights and provides exclusively uranium processing services. The reserves at the field are estimated at 33 thousand tons. Initially, production volumes were projected to be up to 3 thousand tons of uranium per year, but later, due to unconfirmed reserves and site features, the design capacity was reduced.
