“In 2021, the population aging index in the regions of Kazakhstan amounted to 26.6, that is, for every 100 children aged 0 to 15, there are 26.6 citizens aged over 65 years old. In 2017, the index was 25.9,” said the reports.
The population is aging faster in the cities where the index is 28.7, and in 2019-2020 it was 29.1. There are especially many citizens over 65 in the North Kazakhstan region, the index was 66.5.
The “youngest” city is Shymkent, where the index is 14.3 for people aged over 65 per 100 children, while in the capital the index is 17.3.
