It should be noted that in October 2017, during the interregional visit of WKO Akimat delegation, KPO has signed the contract with Schneider Electric company, a worldwide leader in manufacturing electrical and technical equipment, for fabrication of five modular substations for KGDBN project. For its fabrication, Schneider Electric engaged a local partner– PSI Engineering LLP (Karasai machinery building plant).
Edwin Blom, KPO General Director, noted: “The uniqueness of this contract is that previously such substations have been manufactured abroad. This is the first equipment for the first time produced in Kazakhstan. KPO Local Content Development strategy in KGDBN project, implemented with the direct support of the RoK Ministry of Energy and PSA LLC, made it possible to utilize Kazakhstani materials during fabrication of substations, to provide workload to Karasaiiy machinery building plant, to engage local specialists and to transfer technologies and knowledge to Kazakhstani partners”.
Addressing the ceremony, Maxim Ageyev, General Director of Schneider Electric LLP, said: “We are proud to inform about stepping into the final stage of the project on supply of high-technology modular substations for KPO company. It is the first time when such substations have been produced in Kazakhstan in compliance with the advanced international technologies on the base of Karasai machinery building plant. By this project, our company reaffirms its commitment to the strategy of attracting investments, development of innovations and competencies in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Successful implementation of the project with KPO enabled us to update our strategy, better understand the potential of local manufacturers, broaden our company’s output capabilities in manufacturing new products. We are committed to continue involving Kazakhstani machinery building plants in future.”
Locally fabricated modular substations passed integrated factory acceptance tests, which acknowledged their conformance with KPO requirements.
Edwin Blomnoted that successful implementation of Local Content Development strategy in KGDBN project allowed KPO to place 18 direct contracts to 10 manufacturers of goods from five regions within the Republic of Kazakhstan in the amount of approximately $52 millions, which helped to provide the local manufacturers with additional scopes.
