Kazakhstan tightens control over Marburg virus threat

Astana. October 7. KazTAG – Kazakhstan tightens control over the Marburg virus threat, reports the press service of the Ministry of Health.
“The Ministry of Health is closely monitoring the development of the epidemiological situation with the Marburg virus. In order to prevent the import and spread of the disease to the republic, sanitary and quarantine control is carried out at international airports at the state border, where contactless thermometry of all arriving passengers is carried out,” said Sarkhat Beisenova, Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Kazakhstan.
Marburg virus disease is a rare, severe viral hemorrhagic fever that affects humans. The virus is found in nature in bats and can be transmitted from bats to humans. According to data, the virus is transmitted to humans through direct contact. One can become infected through damaged skin or mucous membranes. One can also catch the virus through contact with surfaces and materials, such as bed linen or clothing of an infected person.
The main symptoms of the disease are: fever; sore throat; rash; abdominal pain; blood from the nose and eyes.
