Kazakh court denied woman who fled Afghanistan and asked Kazakhstan for refugee status

Karaganda. December 4. KazTAG - A court in Almaty rejected the complaint of an Afghan citizen who asked to recognize the refusal of the Kazakh authorities to grant her refugee status as illegal.
The court found no grounds for granting her a refugee status.
"The court refused. They believe that the Taliban did not prevent her from leaving the country and that she was not persecuted," said Andrey Grishin,  employee of the Bureau of Human Rights.
Sodaba A. went to court and complained about the officials' refusal to grant her refugee status reviewed, asking to overturn the commission's decision and declare the refusal illegal. She is afraid to return to Afghanistan. According to her, she was forced to flee Afghanistan due to threats from the Taliban. Therefore, she asked to grant her refugee status in Kazakhstan.
"We will file an appeal.  She is still on the territory of Kazakhstan. The refusal is illegal and unfounded. When refusing to grant refugee status, the authorized bodies did not take into account concerns, including about returning to the country of origin. Her family was persecuted. Sodaba received threats from the Taliban directly. She defended women's rights in Afghanistan," said lawyer Gulmira Kuatbekova, who provides legal assistance to Sodaba.
