Journalist Duman Mukhametkarim complained of torture

Taldykorgan. February 26. KazTAG – Journalist Duman Mukhametkarim, who is accused of “participation in a banned organization” and “financing extremism,” complained of torture, Vlast reports.
“Journalist Duman Mukhametkarim, who is accused of “participation in a banned organization” and “financing extremism,” complained of ill-treatment on the way from the court in Konaev to the pre-trial detention center in Taldykorgan. As a sign of protest, and also demanding an open trial over himself, he mutilated himself,” the report said on Monday, citing lawyer Galym Nurpeisov.
According to the lawyer, after the trial, Mukhametkarim “was tied up, practically dragged out and harshly thrown into an uninsulated and unheated paddy wagon.”
“They put him in this paddy wagon, handcuffed him to the seat and drove him from Konaev back to Taldykorgan with the hatch open. Firstly, it’s cold, and secondly, it’s blowing. There was a nail in the seat, and in order to somehow draw attention to all this chaos, he began to pierce his hand with it,” Nurpeisov said.
As noted, upon arrival in Taldykorgan, Mukhametkarim was placed in a hospital, bandaged and given the necessary injections against infections.
