“The Department of the Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition of Kazakhstan for the Atyrau Region has launched an investigation against Atyrau Oil Refinery LLP, the basis for which was an analysis of the dynamics of prices and production (sales) volumes of goods in the oil refining commodity market,” reads the report.
The analysis revealed signs of abuse of a dominant position, expressed in the establishment and maintenance of monopolistically high prices for oil refining. Between 2021 and 2023, the average price increased by 31%.
“ The fact of setting a monopolistically high price is revealed in the process of investigating possible violations of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of competition protection,” the agency concluded.
