Azerbaijan Airlines voiced “physical and technical interference” as cause of the crash near Aktau

Astana. December 30. KazTAG – Azerbaijan Airlines named “physical and technical interference” as the cause of the crash near Aktau.
“From December 28, 2024, flights from Baku to the following airports in Russia have been suspended: Mineralnye Vody, Sochi, Volgograd, Ufa, Samara, Saratov, Nizhny Novgorod, Vladikavkaz. This decision, taken in agreement with the State Civil Aviation Administration of Azerbaijan, is based on the preliminary results of the investigation into the crash of the Embraer 190 aircraft, operating flight J2-8243 Baku-Grozny of Azerbaijan Airlines due to external physical and technical interference, and takes into account potential risks to flight safety. The suspension will be in effect until the final investigation is completed,” Azerbaijan Airlines said in a statement.
On December 25, AZAL decided to suspend flights from Baku to Grozny and Makhachkala.
“For safety reasons, a decision was made to suspend flights of other airlines to these destinations, including Grozny and Makhachkala. Passengers of AZAL flights to/from these cities of Russia, who were unable to use the airline's services due to the current situation, have the opportunity to receive a full refund without penalties or rebook their tickets,” the Azerbaijani airline added.
