KPO HELD THE III INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL FORUM IN URALSK

Uralsk. June 6. KazTAG – The III International Uralsk Green Forum (UGF) organised by Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO) with the support of West Kazakhstan Oblast Akimat was held today in Uralsk.
More than 200 delegates and environmental protection experts, specialists in green technologies, energy efficiency, representatives of ministries and heads of governmental agencies, national and regional governmental bodies, top managers of oil and gas companies, heads of public entities and industry associations attended the Forum.
The key objective of the event was to discuss the provisions of the draft Eco Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan and pressing issues relating to “green” energy development.
In addition, the Forum participants have also discussed the issues of further development in environmental protection and energy saving. Within the scope of the Forum, a special workshop on “Green energy - opportunities and prospects for development” was also arranged.  In the afternoon, within the framework of the Forum, a workshop session on “Raising of information awareness in energy saving: recommendations cases” was held.
Welcoming the participants, KPO General Director, Edwin Blom said: “Efficient subsurface use and mitigation of environmental risks remains top priorities for production activity of our Company. We conduct our activity based on effective, reliable and safe operation, responsible attitude to social and environmental problems that ensures sustainable development. I believe that Uralsk Green Forum (UGF) provides a unique opportunity to have an open dialogue between non-governmental nature protection and environment-oriented associations, business and the government on discussion of the draft Eco Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan and issues concerning the “green” energy development.  
Holding of the annual international environmental forum in Uralsk has already become a good tradition - two forums were held in 2017 and 2018. Further to the first and second Forums, the resolutions were adopted with the action plan aimed at successful implementation of the “Green Economy” concept both in the West Kazakhstan Oblast and throughout the country, as well as at achieving the goals of the RoK Strategic Development Plan till 2025.
It is commonly known that the year 2019 was declared in the Republic of Kazakhstan as the Year of Youth.
KPO on its part has also initiated a contest of innovative environmental ideas among students of West Kazakhstan Oblast. This event allowed the younger generation to present their vision of WKO sustainable development and thus contribute to its future by developing innovative ideas and suggestions. The award ceremony was held at the third UGF environmental forum.
The delegates of the Forum noted the efficiency of the event. According to them, the high expert level of the participants contributed to a thorough discussion and analysis of the issues on the agenda.
Summing up the forum, KPO General Director, Edwin Blom has assured that all topical issues raised during the discussion will be considered in future work, and further consultations will be held on them to provide relevant actions and solutions.
KPO, in all aspects of its operation follows the principles of sustainable development while adhering to the highest standards of environmental protection and fully supports the initiative of transition to “Green Economy” launched by the first President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Activities on emissions’ reduction, waste management and deployment of “green” technologies are always among the Company’s focus areas. Overall, since 1998, KPO’s investments into environment protection activities have made about $380 million. Last year the gas utilization rate in Karachaganak was 99,94 per cent; this is a world-class achievement.
