KPO held 2nd International Uralsk Green Forum

Uralsk. May 24. KazTAG -  The 2nd International Uralsk Green Forum, organised by Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO) with the support of the West Kazakhstan Oblast Akimat and the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held today in Uralsk.
More than 150 delegates and environment protection experts, specialists in green technologies, energy efficiency, waste processing, representatives of ministries and heads of government agencies, national and regional governmental bodies, top managers of oil and gas companies, heads of public entities and industry associations attended the Forum.
The key objective of the event was to discuss the most pressing issues relating to environment and energy saving and promote the development of environmental sphere in the oil and gas industry.
Welcoming the participants, KPO General Director, Edwin Blom, said: “The main idea of the International Uralsk Green Forum is a further strengthening of mutual cooperation in implementing the Concept of “green economy” and the RoK Strategic Development Plan till 2025. We salute to the opportunities for open dialogue between the business and the State on important environmental issues and modern approaches and solutions for improvement of energy efficiency, energy saving and waste management”.
Akim of the West Kazakhstan Oblast, Altai Kulginov, said: "The increased interest of the public, experts and subsoil users clearly demonstrates the readiness and willingness of all interested parties to join efforts in searching for modern high-tech solutions to minimize environmental risks and develop energy efficient production both on the WKO territory and throughout the Republic as a whole."
“For our part, we are ready to study and implement the best international practices and standards of environmental regulation in order to create favourable conditions for doing business and attracting investments in the economy of the region", he added.
Holding an annual international environmental Forum in the city of Uralsk is becoming a good tradition - the first such forum was held a year ago. Today, this event has become an excellent platform for discussing key environmental issues and exchanging the information on the latest technologies in this field. Following the results of the last year’s Forum, a resolution was adopted outlining a plan of concrete actions aimed at the successful implementation of the concept of a "green economy" in the region.
Within the scope of the 2nd International Uralsk Green Forum, an interactive discussion on “Prospect and effective cooperation among the interested parties for addressing the topical environmental and energy saving issues” was arranged in a form of question-and-answer session. The participants have also discussed the plans and prospects for further development in environmental protection and energy saving, perspectives of further improvement of environmental legislation, initiatives and proposals for efficient implementation of “green economy” principles. Special attention was paid to the implementation of innovative technologies in the oil and gas industry, including waste management.
The delegates of the Forum noted the efficiency of the event. According to them, the high expert level of the participants contributed to a thorough discussion and analysis of the issues on the agenda.
KPO follows the principles of sustainable development while adhering to the highest standards of environmental protection in all aspects of its operations. Activities on emissions’ reduction, waste management and deployment of new technologies are always among the company’s focus areas. Overall, since 1998, KPO’s investments into environmental activities have made about $363 million.
