Dzhakishev released on parole

Semey. March 3. KazTAG - The court of Semey has granted the request of Mukhtar Dzhakishev, former head of NAC Kazatomprom JSC to be released on parole.
“By the order dated March 3, the court No. 2 of Semey of the East Kazakhstan region (...) examined the evidences using video conferencing, guided by the requirement of Article 72, part 2 of Article 74 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Article 169 of the Penal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Article 476 and Article 478 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the court has ruled to grant the request of Mukhtar Dzhakishev on parole," said the judge.
On March 12, 2010, the court found Dzhakishev guilty of corruption and sentenced to 14 years in prison in a maximum security penal colony. The former head of Kazatomprom was serving a sentence in the East Kazakhstan region. During this time, his health seriously deteriorated.
On February 13, 2020,  KazTAG  reported with a reference to president of the public fund Ar. Rukh. Hak Bakhytzhan Toregozhin that Dzhakishev was diagnosed with cataracts of both eyes, he again filed a request for parole.
On February 29, President  Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said he believed in  fair consideration of Dzhakishev’s petition for parole.
A number of leading international human rights organizations, as well as government agencies in several Western countries, consider Dzhakishev a political prisoner.
