“Since the beginning of the year, the water level in the Balkhash lake has increased by 15 cm. While on January 1 the level was 159 cm, now the level has reached 174 cm. In fact, this year a large volume of water has flowed through the transboundary Ili River. Thanks to this, it became possible to send more than 2 cubic kilometers of water from the Kapshagai reservoir to the Lake of Balkhash,” Abdualieva said at a briefing at the central communications service.
She added that the West Kazakhstan branch of Kazvodkhoz sent 30 million cubic meters of flood water coming from Russia to the Kamysh-Samar lakes of the region. As the speaker noted, over the past 20 years no water has flowed into these lakes.
